Description*Edit/re write whatever you need to*Quantity Surveying (QS) is my desired career.I have worked within the construction industry for 2 years already (most of my work experience so far).Due to not having the required amount of UCAS points I may have to complete a HNC course over my first year and then transfer to the second year of a QS course which I have no issue with if required to do so.In this time I have acquired a real passion for the industry. My ambition is to go to an established University to study the QS course.Throughout my academic life and beyond I have always loved maths and working with numbers.Although I didn’t continue onto A Levels I feel as though I obtained invaluable knowledge of the industry which I believe students won’t have learnt in the classroom at college.I started to gain skills whilst at High School when I was made Senior Prefect for 2 years. Since then I have gained even more skills whilst working in the construction industry. Such as confident when working in teams/on my own, find it easy to communicate with various types of people, build healthy working relationships, learn new things quickly, work and adapt well under pressure to meet deadlines and possessing a competitive edge where I want to do the best I can in everything I participate in. I believe the skills I have gained have put me in good stead to become a well accomplished QS.When in full time education I never really struggled with any learning or revising aspects of any compulsory subjects. So now I effectively get to choose what I want to do for the rest of my life I am supremely confident that I will be successful during the course and beyond. In pursuit to achieve my goal I have already began my research on the career. The main things that grabbed me was first obviously working within construction and being able to expand my knowledge even further and have vital inputs in big projects. Then next was working within financial budgets as my mathematic skills have always been to a high standard so I strongly believe I would excel in this part of the job for sure. Also in my preparation I have spoke to 2 QS’ I know. I feel it has given me a priceless head start on the insights of the job. We spoke about different paths they took, their uni experiences, their placement opportunities and some other overall job details (what attributes are needed to become successful, how one day differs to the next, how you meet a variety of different people from various occupations and companies). We also spoke about the foundation year and HNC course and that neither should be looked as a negative. I agreed with them unanimously. As I essentially get an extra year to learn about my chosen career. My hobbies include; football, cricket and rugby which help me to keep fit and socialise with friends. I have represented my country and district in all 3 sports and have captained my teams in 2 of them. These all definitely helped me improve my skillset in different scenarios. I have also started to enjoy reading books, particularly biographies. My favourite being Tyson Fury’s as I find his to be the most motivating I have read where he talked about the highest of highs and lowest of lows in his life and career. Furthermore I enjoy doing maths puzzles to keep my mind active. And also in my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends socialising. (Are the extra details needed?)
